Hair Removal using IPL

Hair Removal using IPL

You may think that all ‘laser’ hair removal technologies are the same, but this is not the case. Hair removal using IPL is often promoted as being cheaper than laser hair removal. While hair removal using IPL may be cheaper per session, IPL hair removal treatments will actually cost you more in the long term, both in results and overall maintenance.

And this is why: so-called IPL ‘permanent’ hair removal uses technology that emits a variety of light wavelengths. Some of these light wavelengths will be the precise wavelength to attach to the melanin in a hair follicle and some won’t be. So in actual fact, a certain percentage of your IPL hair removal treatment is not doing anything at all. This leads to more overall IPL sessions being required to get the hair removal result you want, and more sessions to maintain the result. SPL hair removal using luminex lasers also have the same problem.

IPL vs. Laser Hair Removal

Unlike your IPL hair removal treatment, laser hair removal emits only a single, precise wavelength of light. This precise wavelength is the exact wavelength required to target the melanin in the hair follicle, meaning you get a more effective treatment per session, leading to fewer treatments in the long term.

So in terms of IPL vs. laser hair removal, you will get a more effective treatment, need fewer treatments to achieve your desired result, and fewer treatments to maintain this result. This is actually cheaper for you over the life of your hair removal.

You should also know that no hair removal, IPL or otherwise can truly be said to be permanent hair removal. While some clinics say laser, IPL or SPL is permanent hair removal, this isn’t strictly true. It is actually permanent hair reduction that may require a few touch-up sessions annually to maintain your results.
